Vacatureomschrijving

The position is embedded in the novel Netherlands Consortium of Dementia Cohorts (NCDC), a unique project funded by ZonMw and Alzheimer Nederland to unravel the etiology of dementia in order to find clues for primary prevention by performing pooled analyses of 9 ongoing prospective cohort studies on cognitive aging and dementia from the Netherlands. Within the project you will work on Workpackages 4 and 5, in which you will investigate the contribution of various risk factors to the development of cerebral (micro)vascular pathology and amyloid pathology, investigate to what extent microvascular and amyloid pathology are associated with other biological substrates of dementia, including brain atrophy and altered brain connectivity, and investigate the role of microvascular pathology in the development of cognitive decline and dementia. Responsibilities of the selected candidate will include communication and collaboration with other PhD’s and postdocs within the consortium, database handling, data analysis, writing and publishing manuscripts, and reporting results at local meetings and at (inter-)national conferences.

Department

The Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care is one of the 11 divisions within the University Medical Center Utrecht (UMC Utrecht). The Julius Center aspires to an international leadership role in obtaining and disseminating knowledge in the field of health sciences and primary care medicine. It has acquired a leading position by focusing on 3 pillars: ground-breaking research, successful education programs and academic primary care. The Department of Epidemiology’s main tasks are to perform high-quality and internationally renowned research and teaching in the field of clinical epidemiology. The (clinical) epidemiology studies determine the occurrence of diseases or complications and provide methods for population-based or patient-related research. The focus is diagnostic, etiological, prognostic and therapeutic research. The Julius Center has organized its research in four research programs: Cardiovascular Epidemiology, Cancer Epidemiology, Infectious diseases Epidemiology, and Methodology. The Department of Epidemiology provides education at Bachelor and Master degree levels in Medicine, Summa and Biomedical Sciences. The goal is to teach students at different levels the basic principles and methods of (clinical) epidemiological research and evidence-based medicine. In addition, the Department of Epidemiology offers Master's in "Epidemiology" and "Epidemiology Postgraduate” within the Graduate School of Life Sciences of the University of Utrecht.

Profile

You are a highly motivated investigator with strong organizational, communicative, and analytical qualities. You have a MSc in (neuro-)epidemiology, neuroscience and cognition, neuropsychology, medicine, biomedical science, or related fields. You are fluent in Dutch or English. You have experience with performing data-analyses of prospective cohort studies. You have a basic understanding of brain imaging and vascular pathology. Affinity or experience with dementia research and magnetic resonance imaging is an advantage.

The maximum salary for this position (100%) is € 3.103,00 gross per month based on full-time employment (work week 36 hours). This job is based on a temporary position for 1 jaar, met verlenging mogelijk tot in totaal 42 maanden.

In addition, we offer an annual benefit of 8.3%, holiday allowance, travel expenses and career opportunities. The terms of employment are in accordance with the Cao University Medical Centers (UMC).

Details

The project starts in 2019. Your application should include a motivation letter, a CV, a brief description of past research experience. You will work at the UMC Utrecht as well as Maastricht University; number of days per week at which location will depend on practical issues and preference.
